Junior Tennis

  • After School Tennis (ages 5-18)

    A fun way to learn tennis is in a group with peers. Our goal is to teach the sport for lifetime enjoyment. We take pride in having our junior players participating actively on their high school varsity tennis team, often as freshmen. The after school classes are offered to all ages and levels of our junior members. Registration is done on a monthly basis with many of our players participating year round.


    We offer 4 levels of year-round After School Tennis Classes:

    • Aces (ages 5-6)
    • Novice (ages 7-10)
    • Intermediate (ages 8-13)
    • Advanced/High Performance (Head Pro Approval)

    High School Scrimmage – Preparing our players for the upcoming high school season is the goal of this new program. Match play with coaching is the format for this highly effective session.

  • Tennis Camps

    Throughout the year our pro staff offers morning camps during extended school vacations including Thanksgiving vacation, winter break, spring break, and summer. These popular day camps are in addition to our highly regarded summer tennis camp.


    Summer Tennis Camp – Our summer tennis camp runs from early June through early August, offered at times compatible with the swim team schedule.

  • Junior Tennis Leagues

    Our exciting junior team competes in local leagues during the summer, spring and fall in several age groups: Under 10, Under 12 and Over 13. The Lamorinda and USTA Junior Team Tennis League sees us in action during the summer months while the Diablo Valley Junior Tennis League is our spring and fall league.

  • Adult Tennis Leagues

    Sleepy Hollow participates in the USTA NorCal adult leagues throughout the year with volunteer captains managing the teams. 


    In addition to the USTA adult leagues, we enter teams in Bay Area Ladies Leagues with matches taking place weekdays during the spring and fall. Teams practice informally in addition to organized instructional sessions with the club’s professionals.

  • Tennis Mixers

    The Grand Slam Mixers are fun for the whole family (novice and advanced players alike) and are consistently popular events at Sleepy Hollow. Adults and top junior players enjoy playing some spirited, friendly doubles while younger members of the family participate in their own fun and games led by our pro staff. 


    Tennis mixers are held year-round to correspond with the Grand Slam tournaments:

    • Australian Open
    • French Open
    • Wimbledon, and 
    • US Open

Meet Our Tennis Pros

Jim Coyne

Jim played his junior tennis in Ontario, eventually ending his intercollegiate career playing for the University of Nevada, Reno. During summer breaks from college he was a director at the Tennis at Mills program at Mills College in Oakland, which led to his position as the Director of Tennis at the Claremont Resort in Oakland. For 27 years he operated the pro shop and provided lessons and services from beginners to world famous celebrities. Most recently Jim was the Director of Junior Tennis for the USTA Northern California and through his efforts NorCal became a leader across the country in creative programming.

In 2015, Jim was appointed Chairman of the USTA NorCal 10 & Under Committee.


Xavier Manalo

Xavier played high school tennis at Head-Royce School in Oakland and Sunnyside High School in Fresno, where he reached the quarter-final round of the CIF Central Section Singles Championship in 2003. Xavier started teaching tennis as a camp counselor at the Head Royce School Summer Enrichment Program in 1996, continuing for a number of years. That early teaching experience was the foundation upon which he has built his skills in teaching children. Since then, he has been involved in coaching and teaching adults and children at a variety of tennis facilities in the Bay Area. He is currently an Assistant Professional at Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club.
