CLUB History

Generations of Lamorinda families have enjoyed the legendary spirit and community at Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club

For more than sixty years Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club has been a welcoming community providing outstanding recreational opportunities for our member families. Nestled in the quiet Orinda Hills, Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club is a place for families to come together, creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime.

In 1954, a group of Orinda residents took the unusual step to reserve a piece of the beautiful Sleepy Hollow countryside as a green belt and outdoor recreation center. A neighborhood organization formed a non-profit association in order to sell memberships and purchase 45 acres and thus in 1955 Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association was created. In 1958, Sunset Magazine featured an article on the swim club stating that Sleepy Hollow pool has “established itself as an outdoor clubhouse and community gathering place.”

Community and Connectedness

"The secret is out! In 2012, Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club unveiled its new pool facility. "

The $3 million first phase renovation ushered in a state of the art eight lane competitive racing pool. But the most exciting addition is a new mini-water park pool with entertaining water features and a 15 foot single loop slide. With the addition of the new recreation pool families with young children have a shallow wading area to gently introduce the youngest to the joys of the water and older children can slide the day away. Additional 2013 improvements have benefitted the tennis facility with tennis court renovations. 2016 saw the addition of several fitness classes for adult members. The spring of 2017 will see the completion of an observation deck and hillside seating overlooking the pool facility, creating the ideal setting for viewing swim competitions

For years, Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club has continued to hold a unique and special place in the Lamorinda community. Casual and family-oriented, the club kept a quiet profile for 55 years while offering one of the strongest swim programs, the greatest number of tennis courts and the most tranquil settings in Lamorinda. The Contra Costa Times named SHSTC “the best kept secret” in the East Bay.

Sleepy Hollow Swim & Tennis Club’s mission is to provide outstanding programming. To that end, the Club has sought out exceptional swim and tennis coaches. Our professional coaches not only teach entry level swimmers and tennis players but groom collegiate and Olympic competitors. Our exceptional swim program is consistently ranked one of the top 10 teams in competitive Contra Costa County. Under the direction of our Head Tennis Pro, our exceptional adult and junior tennis programs are dynamic and competitive.
